Sustainable Innovation 2021 event goes online

Published: 2021-02-19

LONDON – The biennial Sustainable Innovation conference is to be held online next month for the first time when it will host expert speakers on issues around sustainability and fashion. Sustainable Innovation 2021: Accelerating Sustainability in Fashion, Clothing, Sportswear and Accessories – hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Design (CSD) at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) – will be held over seven days from 15–21 March.

A prestigious line-up of academics, innovators and entrepreneurs will be logging on from five continents to present and share ideas on issues such as fashion consumption and the resulting impact on the world’s climate.

Conference organiser Professor Martin Charter, director of the Centre for Sustainable Design, said: “This highly respected conference, now in its 23rd year, aims to explore ideas that will lead to new choices for consumers, manufacturers and designers.

“Many of these innovations take the form of pathways and approaches that will help individuals and organisations create and consume with a clearer conscience.”

Purchasing a seven-day pass will entitle conference delegates to a wide range of benefits including eight panel discussions with leading thinkers and practitioners, seven speed networking sessions and high-quality hard copy presentations from over 50 expert speakers.

Topics explored by speakers include models that promote the circular economy, advances in development of sustainable materials, sustainable design case studies, traceability, and cultures emerging around sustainability.

The line-up of speakers includes Rogier van Mazijk, investment director at Fashion for Good; Michael Schragger, founder of the Sustainable Fashion Academy; Isabelle Durant, deputy secretary general of UNCTAD; Michael Stanley Jones, co-secretary, UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion; and Christine Goulay, head of sustainable innovation at Kering.
