“This strategy is an important roadmap because it will set out a vision to transform Cambodia’s garment, footwear and bag industry into a high-value, supportive, diversified and more competitive industry,” said Finance Minister, Aun Pornmoniroth.

For this, special focus will be put on strengthening the human resources with improved working condition, increasing productivity and creating business lines for workers.

Also, efforts have to be made to attract investment in industries that support the sector and also promote export market diversification, according to the brief draft.

Cambodia’s garment sector has been severely affected due to the outbreak of the pandemic. Thousands of workers have lost their job and also the EU’s partial withdrawal of EBA, effective from 12 August.

Pornmoniroth further explains that the step is to set up a common direction for the development of the industry increasing the sustainability and environment.
