USA : First International Collaborative workshop on nonwoven in South India July 4, 2007

The USA based Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, popularly known as INDA will be collaborating with PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore to conduct the First International Collaborative workshop in South India. Nonwoven is a growth segment within the textile industry and forms a part of technical textiles.

Technical textile industry is globally worth 115 billion dollars of which India’s share is approximately 6 billion US dollars. India’s share in this segment will double by 2012. According to recently released data from INDA, India will register an annual growth of 12.4% in the non woven sector in the next few years, which is over 2 times that of the growth in industrialized countries.

The lacuna in India for the growth of this nascent sector is lack of, know-how of technology, products and marketing.

To alleviate this problem, the US based INDA is offering a two-day workshop at PSG College of Technology on July 5th & 6th. The workshop is aimed at giving the necessary information for starters as well as those in the field to kick start the nonwoven industrial base in India.

The workshop will feature video presentation of actual nonwoven machinery in operation and will also display the various non woven products. This show and tell is first of its kind in South India.

This unique workshop will be very valuable for industry, research organization and academia dealing with textiles in India. The workshop will be conducted by Dr.Seshadri Ramkumar of Texas Tech University, USA who is the Co-Chairman of INDA’s India committee. The workshop is co-ordinated by Mr.M.Mallyah of INDA – India and Dr.T.Ramachandran, Head, Textile Department, PSG College of Technology.

The workshop will begin at 9.30 am on July 5th at PSG College of Technology with the inaugural programme. Shri KG. Baalarishanan, Chairman, KG Group of Textile Companies, Coimbatore, Shri T. Rajkumar, Sakthi Textiles, Shir. G. Rangaswamy, Managing Trustee PSG Institutions, Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar, of Texas Tech University, USA, Mr.M. Mallyah, INDA- India, Dr.T.Ramachandran, Head , PSG College of Technology, participants and other dignitaries will be participating in the inaugural function.

The workshop concludes at 3.30 pm of July 6th with a valedictory function.Shri. M. Manickam, Vice-Chariman, Sakthi Sugars, Ltd., will be the Chief Guest and will present the highly acclaimed INDA certificate to the workshop participants.

Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG Colege of Technology will preside over the function. Over 100 participants are expected to attend the workshop and gain valuable first hand experience of nonwoven processes and products for the first time in South India.
